The quality and durability of Engineered hardwood flooring
There are so many flooring choices on the market today, you can easily get confused by all the technical speak going on. In simple terms, engineered hardwood flooring is constructed with several layers of hardwood that are stacked on top of each other in opposite directions. This engineered process allows the layers to counteract each others movement when the humidity changes.
Solid hardwood tends to expand and contract depending on the level of humidity and the temperature. Engineered flooring on the other hand, with its cross-ply construction creates a stable surface and does not experience the same expansion and contraction issues. It can easily be installed below grade and on a concrete surface by using either glue or the floating technique. It can also be installed over radiant heat without damaging.
When it comes to selection, there are many different brands and types of engineered hardwood. Popular choices include Red Oak, Beech, Bamboo and Maple to name only a few. Some of this flooring can be sanded one or twice. The best and most expensive brands have thicker top layers so that means they can be sanded several times. Some of these top brands also offer 25 year wear warranties.
